Lau Kwok Ching (劉國禎, 1915-2015) was the founding principal of the Kowloon Technical School (九龍工業學校). Having graduated from the University of Hong Kong with Bachelor’s degree in Arts in 1937, he joined the Junior Technical School (初級工業學校), teaching English, technical drawing and geometry. Later, he also taught at the Evening School of the Government Trade School (香港官立高級工業學院). After the WWII, he was recruited by George White to teach at The Government Trade School. He was soon transferred to the School Inspectorate of the Education Department. In 1957, he became the founding principal of Victoria Technical School (維多利亞工業學校).

In the 1960s, Hong Kong experienced a period of rapid economic growth. On October 7, 1961, the Government announced the establishment of a technical school in Sham Shui Po. Lau suggested that the school should better be named “Kowloon Technical School.” Lau’s suggestion was accepted by the Government and the Kowloon Technical School opened in Sham Shui Po on September 11, 1961. In 1962, Lau was officially appointed as the principal of the newly established Kowloon Technical School. Having helmed the school for almost a decade, he retired from work in 1970.[1]
