dc.description.abstract | Range of scope: The dissertation deals with the vocational training of operatives and craft level personnel, together with related factors, in developing countries. It has a four-fold aim. These are: (a) To examine the needs for operative and craft level manpower education and training in developing countries. (b) The consideration of related factors such as intermediate technology, local conditions and environment. (c) The comparison and relationship of vocational training needs in developing countries with established practices in developed countries. (d) To lay down general principles and recommendations in relation to the above. Main findings: One of the prime needs of an emergent country is to develop the general basic education of its people coupled with sensible vocational education and training. When planning such systems consideration must be given to intermediate technology and local conditions, including social, cultural and economic factors, together with the philosophy of the government as well as the wishes of the people. (Note: The range and scope of the dissertation is covered in greater depth in the "Preface and objectives on page 6. The findings of the dissertation are covered in detail in Chapter Seven, “Conclusions and Recommendations”, on page 127) | - |
