Hong Kong stands at the threshold of a major challenge as it returns to China under the Basic Law which enshrines the philosophy of One Country Two Systems. The basis of Hong Kong's economy has evolved to an increasingly commercial and servicing centre. A vital factor has been the vocational training and technical education system which is flexible and seeks to match output of trained manpower with the economy's changing requirements. This paper outlines the historical background and the current status of vocational training and technical education. It looks forward to the positive effects that the change in sovereignty will bring which could lead to the opening up of a vast market for Hong Kong's products and expertise -- Source from VOCEDplus
