Campus of Mongkok Worker's Night School

The Hong Kong College of Technology (HKCT) (香港專業進修學校) was originally established as the Mongkok Workers' Night School (MKWNS) (旺角工人夜校) in 1957 at the campus of Mongkok Workers' Children School (旺角勞工子弟學校). [1] It was the first non-subvented workers' school in Hong Kong to provide affordable education for working-class families after the Second World War.

On 30 March 1987, the MKWNS officially changed its name to the Hong Kong College of Technology (香港專業進修學校) to reflect changes in the educational curriculum and the educational needs. It is now being transformed into a charitable post-secondary educational institution. In August 2014, the registration of 'HKCT Institute of Higher Education' (CTIHE) (港專學院) under the Post-Secondary Colleges Ordinance (Cap. 320) was approved. CTIHE becomes the nineteenth tertiary institution eligible to award degrees in Hong Kong.

HKCT became one of the first-batch retraining institutions when the Employees Retraining Board (formerly known as the Hong Kong Government’s Provisional Retraining Fund Board) was established in 1992. At that time, HKCT was the only non-subsidised institution commissioned by the Government to run the retraining courses. [2]
