Hong Kong Polytechnic (香港理工學院) was established in 1972, taking over the campus and staff of the Hong Kong Technical College (香港工業專門學院). It was renamed the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (香港理工大學) in 1994 as acquiring university status on 25 November of the same year.
