In the 1960s, Hong Kong experienced a period of rapid economic growth. On October 7, 1961, the Government announced the establishment of a technical school in Sham Shui Po. Lau suggested that the school should better be named “Kowloon Technical School.” Lau’s suggestion was accepted by the Government and the Kowloon Technical School opened in Sham Shui Po on September 11, 1961. In 1962, Lau was officially appointed as the principal of the newly established Kowloon Technical School.
